I don’t talk about politics—never have, never will. Those conversations zap my joy, so I choose to avoid them. Lately, however, I have been surrounded by the topic, and I find myself in the middle of learning what it means to live in the world but not be of the world (John 17:14). It is the most challenging balancing act I have ever experienced in my almost 27 years as a civil servant.
I entered 2025 with big dreams. This was going to be my year—the year I get a book deal, the year my podcast (Juggling Life, Finding Balance) takes off, and we reach and help millions of women. Within three weeks into the new year, the excitement of those plans has been overshadowed by professional uncertainty, and my attention and focus have made an about-face. In over two decades of service, I have never witnessed morale drop so low – so fast. As a leader, I care for, support, and protect those under my authority to the best of my ability and within my control. I have never needed God more than now.
As believers in the workplace, we can find ourselves in an awkward position when faced with change. We want to quote scripture and tell our colleagues that God is in control and not to worry. I desire to add Jeremiah 29:11 to my signature block so everyone who receives a work-related email will be encouraged by God’s perfect plan for their lives. I want to open every staff meeting with prayer and remind those in attendance of the promise of Romans 8:28. But I hesitate. I have grown weary of toning down my faith in the workplace for fear of offending those who do not believe as I do. Perhaps now is the time to ditch the rulebook and put souls ahead of the fear of a complaint filed against my pristine professional record.
Federal employees are moms and dads with growing families. They are young adults who aspire to serve their country. They are people – the most important asset and resource in the workplace. But more importantly, they are sons and daughters of the Most High. They are loved and cared for by a Heavenly Father who protects them.
Jesus experienced earthly political turmoil – all the way to the cross. He was innocent yet paid the ultimate price. What the Romans did to Him was unfair, produced great sorrow, and created confusion. But God…
God had a plan. Without the cross, we would not have a Savior.
I do not know what 2025 will bring to my colleagues, to those I lead, or what it will bring to me. But I know, that just as God was in control when His Son hung on the cross for us, so too is He in control now. He loves His kids. Nothing that happens on this Earth is a surprise to Him. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God – to those who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
It is my prayer that the promise of Romans 8:28 brings comfort to those worried about the future. Be encouraged – God is in control. He has a plan for you. It is a good plan – not one to harm you. But to prosper you and give you hope and a future.
Scripture Reading (New International Version)
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
1 Peter 5:7
Cast all anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Psalm 46:10
He says, Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the Earth.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer
Lord, Thank you for never leaving us. There are many today who are nervous about their future. I lift them to You today and ask that You comfort their anxious souls. Help us to remember to keep our eyes on You and to remember Your promises of hope and a future. We trust your perfect plans for our lives and the timing of those plans. Help us not to be fearful but rather, to look forward to the amazing things you have in store. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

He is in control Sister. I’m standing on the knowledge with you that His plan is bigger.
Hey Lorrie! Yes, it is – and we must be patient while his plans are in the works. Easier said than done, though – huh? Thanks for the note!
I am praying that wisdom and discernment will rule every decision made. There are always real people who have real needs behind these decisions. May our Lord comfort and provide for everyone who is living in this time of uncertainty.
Hi, Dawn! Thank you for your prayers for those who are living in uncertainty right now. It is a difficult season and I stand alongside you in prayer.
