Children have a way of using their imagination without hesitation. They dream without limits, completely open to the possibility that something wonderful could happen at any moment. Their little hearts are not weighed down by years of disappointment, reality, or worry. I think that is why God chose to speak to me the way He did… through the innocent, imperfect handwriting of a child.

I was out on a walk the day God spoke to me. I needed to clear my head. I had been staring at a blank screen for hours, unable to string even two sentences. The writer’s block wasn’t just frustrating anymore; it was debilitating. I was beginning to think I had misunderstood the calling to write a book. For three years, I spent every free moment researching, interviewing, and writing – now, I was convinced I had wasted my time.

As I shuffled along, I spotted a folded piece of paper lying in the middle of the sidewalk. Although the wind was blowing, the paper remained anchored to the ground. Something inside nudged me to pick it up. When I opened it, five handwritten words stared back at me: Magine Publish Supper Letter 1 Day. My heart fluttered. I knew the message was for me.

The misspellings didn’t matter, nor did the note’s simplicity. What mattered was the immediate clarity I felt as I held that little note. God was inviting me to childlike imagination – to dream with Him about the day I would publish the love letter He planted in my heart. The calling was not a mistake, nor had the dream to write and publish a book died. They were alive and waiting – just as God had promised years earlier.

Imagination is often where faith begins. It is the space where we allow ourselves to picture what God might be doing, even when nothing around us has changed yet. When we imagine with Him, we enter into His creative process, not as spectators who have to know the ending, but as children who trust that our Father knows how to lead us. Imagination permits us to hope while also reminding us that God often stirs our hearts long before He reveals the full picture. The note on the sidewalk that day was God’s way of telling me not to give up.

And I didn’t.

If there is a dream or idea that keeps tugging at your heart or if God is inviting you into something you cannot fully make sense of yet, be encouraged to take the first step and simply imagine what it might one day be like to see the dream come to pass. God can take it from there!
